Electric fencing

Electric fencing consists of a conducting wire carrying an electric current. Electric fence fencing is generally used for enclosing animal shelters and meadows and is usually combined with non-electric types or fencing. Use of quality insulators is essential for proper functioning of the electric fence system.

A good electric fence insulator ensures that no electrical current can leak out and that electric fence wire or tape is properly mounted to the fence post. Basically, there are several types of insulators, which include offset or standoff insulators, nail and screw insulators and egg insulators.

With offset insulators, a certain distance is created between the post and the electified wire, cord or tape. Verpas supplies offset insulators with a ring insulator for wire and cord and clamp insulators specifically for tape or ribbon. The mounting method of offset insulators varies:

  • Brace clamp – fits metal fence posts of round Ø48 or Ø60mm and rectangular 60x40mm
  • Self-clamping – clip-on insulators clamp on single and twin wire security mesh panels and welded wire mesh fencing
  • Screw-in or nail-in – for plastic or wooden fence posts

Besides offset insulators, the well-known grooved nail insulators and egg insulators are also available for electrified wire.
